Why I Love Audiooks

I have a goal to read 35 books this year, in order to make that happen most of them will be audio books!  I am a middle school teacher and mom of two; most of my free time is spent in the car.  Audio books have become increasingly popular in recent years, and for good reason. Here are a few reasons why you should consider listening to audio books.

Convenience: Unlike traditional books, audio books can be enjoyed anywhere and at any time. Whether you're driving, working out, or doing household chores, you can listen to a book at the same time. This makes it easier to fit reading into a busy schedule.  Audio books don't take up any space in your home, reducing clutter and stress.  When you get ready to travel you can take as many books with you as you 'd like and it won't overload your luggage!

Improved Comprehension: For some people, listening to a book can actually improve comprehension and retention. This is because audio books can engage different parts of the brain than traditional reading, leading to a deeper understanding of the material.

Better Pronunciation: Audio books are often narrated by professional voice actors, who can help with pronunciation and improve your own reading skills. This can be especially helpful when reading books with complex or unfamiliar words.  On occasion I have started an audio book and I couldn't listen to the person narrating so I did not finish the book.  One of my favorite reads was Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey.  Narrated by none other than McConaughey himself!

Everybody Fights was another audio book narrated by the authors that I really enjoyed listening too.  It was like you were having a conversation with Kim and Penn.

Low Cost: I use the Libby app and can check out audio books for free from my local library.  Many libraries participate in something similar.  This is very convenient as I don't have to leave my house to pick anything up and I don't have to worry about late fees.  The book will automatically return on the due date.  Amazon has a program called Audible where you can subscribe and listen to all the books you want.  Try Audible Premium Plus and Get Up to Two Free Audio books

Entertainment: Perhaps the most obvious reason I listen to audio books is for entertainment. Whether you're into mystery, romance, or non-fiction, there's an audio book out there for everyone.  With so many great narrators out there, listening to an audio book can be a truly entertaining experience.  Sisters First was a very entertaining listen.  Hearing the Bush sisters stories directly from them was a cool experience.

There are many other great reasons to give audio books a try. Whether you're looking for convenience, low cost, or just some entertainment, an audio book might just be the perfect fit for you.  If you give one a try, let me know what you think!
